A couple of months ago I was kindly sent some products from The Ordinary range and I have been trialling them since.
Lets start with the packaging. The boxes themselves feel very sleek and have a Nars-ish packaging feel to them. The bottles on the other hand are glass and have pipettes in them, which work really well. All together the bottles look really cute in my skincare cupboard, not that that’s a reason to get them but it is a nice touch.
Before I go into each one in detail, I will say one of the roadblocks I personally ran into is that I wasn’t sure exactly what some of these serums initially did. This is definitely due to my lack of knowledge in the department (there are just so many different acids and serums!) but I did have to first look up exactly what each serum did. But after that there were no problems. Although I understand that they are purely the serums themselves, the names are still slightly confusing to me.
The Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
This is a hydration serum. We have it in our skin, however its function isn’t to hydrate, although it does have amazing hydrating properties. This was amazing to use after my winter trip in Europe in December, as when we got back to Australia and it was the middle of summer, my skin was slightly freaking out. When you apply it, the serum seems slightly sticky, but that feeling goes away very fast and it sinks into the skin in moments. I only use one pipette worth for my entire face and have been doing it both in the morning and at night, though I think I prefer it at nights.
The main thing I really like about it is how hydrating my skin feels immediately once it’s sunk in. Even the first few times I used it, I could already feel my skin be softer and plumper. Overall, I’m really glad I have this in my life now and will definitely continue using it, especially on those extra dehydrated days!
The 100% Plant-Derived Squalane
This is without a doubt the oiliest serum I have out of the three here. I would definitely only use this at night and one pipette is enough to do my whole face and neck as I really find it goes a long way. Although I find it very oily, I don’t get a greasy feeling from it, so if you enjoy oily products that aren’t greasy, definitely check this out!
What it does is help to ensure that hydration actually stays in your skin and limits dehydration. I think it would have long-term benefits in that, however after roughly a month and a half of using it I can’t say I have noticed a crazy big difference. However, I do want to keep using it for longer to see if there are more long-term benefits. I do find my skin feels more supple the morning after I use it though so that’s definitely a positive.
The Lactic Acid 5% + HA 2%
When I first saw this, I had no idea what it was. But after some research I found that Lactic Acid is a mild exfoliant. This is the one I used with the most caution, as it should not be used on peeling, sensitive of compromised skin. Although generally I don’t have sensitive skin, I did worry about putting too much of this on. It causes the skin to be more prone to sunburn, which in this Australian summer is the last thing you want.
However, I did try it a couple of times and I do have to say that the results are immediate. My skin felt less textured and smoother after applying this. I also feel like my pores looked clearer and I didn’t get any tingly feeling. However, if you have sensitive skin I would recommend trying it first slightly diluted and don’t forget to wear sunscreen once you have used it!
So there you have it! Overall, I am very happy with the products and the ways they have all performed. I think if you’re planning to get some, because of how effective and pure they are, definitely read a few more reviews to find out exactly which serums would work for your skin type. Having said that, I have normal to dry skin and I would highly recommend the Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 to anyone!
Have you tried these before? What did you think?
Love,
Sofia
*Please note, these products were kindly sent to me for my review and consideration. However all opinions are honest and 100% my own.

Great honest review Sophia. I have heard about this brand for a while now and I think I might give them a go once I finish the serum I am currently using by Khiel’s.
Thanks for visiting my little corner, much love from not so sunny England

I’ve heard so many good things about this brand but never tried them out, the options are confusing! That first serum sounds like it would be perfect to start off with though 🙂
Hope that you are having a good week so far! The weather has been more bearable this week which is nice, not the crazy high temps we had last week!

The Ordinary can definitely be overwhelming! I know that’s what put me off at first, but I’ve heard amazing things about their products. And it’s actually one where I can afford to try out all of their products that I’ve been hearing about, haha

I get you on the confusion – the ordinary has so many different products and it’s really overwhelming at first! their hyaluronic acid is my faaave! I’ve went through 4 or 5 bottles of it already, and it does a lot for my dry skin! squalane is one of my favorites too, though it’s actually supposed to be a moisturizer 🙂

I haven´t tried anything from the brand, but for someone that loves skincare as much as I do the different kinds of serums and actives all labeled by ingredient name excite me.

Yeah they really have I agree!! Definitely do it 😀 xx
Wow! First of, I like how all the ingredients are clear at the front so you know EXACTLY what you’re putting onto your face. Considering the price, it looks like a very high-end product. It’s unbelievable. The only products I’m genuinely not too keen on are oily hydrators or moisturizers. I just don’t like the look or feel of it on my face. However, when you mentioned how it doesn’t have that oily feel which I hate, I kind of second looked the product. Great honest review in my opinion. Hope the product has done you well.

I definitely do NOT know a lot about skin serums and such, so this was super helpful to me! What I LOVE about these is that they’re vegan formulas! That means a lot to me so this is definitely something I’d try. Especially with Colorado’s crazy dry winters!
